Editorial Standard

What makes a product useful on VanityBoard

We do not treat popularity as proof. A product earns visibility when its ingredient list supports a clear use case, the formula avoids obvious conflicts for that use case, and available outside evidence helps explain the trade-off for real shoppers.

Concern fit comes first

Hydrating products are checked for humectants, emollients, barrier-support ingredients, and common dryness triggers. Brightening products are reviewed for tone-supporting actives and irritation risk. Acne-support picks are separated from medical treatment claims.

Missing evidence is labeled

Some products have ingredient data before review panels or chemist notes are complete. Those missing layers are marked as pending instead of being converted into a negative score, so readers can tell which parts of the ranking are live and which need more research.

Commercial links are separated

Retailer and affiliate links are treated as convenience links after the ranking is created. They do not control placement, and product pages disclose when links may earn a commission.
